Commercial Printing Survives? Does Your Company, Your Job?
Print is going through a dramatic evolution and is changing daily. But it will not be going away anytime soon for sure. Newspapers are dying because no-one is reading them. It's easier to find classified stuff on ebay, homes, etc, news is flying in by email, sorted to everyones interest. Newspapers are dying because of the whole model of that print media is becoming obsolete and has technical changes chipping away on every corner. Newspapers though, do not represent commercial printing.
Commercial Print is doing many cool things. Variable data, wide format, color and quality beyond belief. Quick Printing is evolving to OnDemand. Commercial print is faster and better than ever. Those who aren't evolving with it though are to be short lived. Medium sized printers are dying off still, again those who go digital and evolve at a painful pace can survive.
All printing faces gigantic corporate forces to monopolize the industry. On the Quick Print side, companies like Kinko's, now owned by FedEx, scamming with Adobe to suck that market into a click of a button. On the high volume side, consolidators and corporate predators like Quebecor, Quad, Donnelly are buying medium and large sized printers just to shut them down, layoff, liquidate, move the work to other plants.
Will your printing company be one of the few who survives this dramatic upheaval? What makes you think that? Commercial Print will be here going forward, but what about your company, your job? Join This Conversation, Sound Off Here at Prepress Forums
