Hi carbon, I doubt this is the real reason, or the only reason for that matter. Improper cleaning in the prewash section is easy to detect as it produces very particular symptoms later on - sticky, transparent PVA goo builds up on the prewash brush over time, clearly indicating is rubs the plate almost dry, water is not enough to dilute that stuff, - the developer gets contaminated with PVA, the white sludge is easy to spot as it's higher density than DEV, - you may get banding on plate in direction with plate travel trhough the machine affecting large areas, also processing uniformity is bad with more than 2... - Read More at This Link..
