Heidelberg vs Agfa vs Fuji Javelin CTP (computer to plate)

Heidelberg vs Agfa vs Fuji Javelin CTP (computer to plate)

We are a small printing company moving to 4 up CTP and are looking at systems from Presstek, Heidelberg Agfa and Fuji. We are running Heidelberg presses and print about 50/50 spot colors and 4 color – printing mostly for design firms. I was wondering if anyone on this board has had any experience or advice on any of these systems.

1.The Presstek Dimension 400 system was bundled with Dupont CromaPro XP, Dupont Rip and an Epson 7600. We tested the Presstek plates and found that they required and increase in water to hold a clean dot on press. Although we liked no-process plates, the press operators did not like how the plates performed.

2.The Heidelberg system is a ProSetter 74 with MetaDimension/Prinect Signa Station and a HP 5500 printer. The Heidelberg plates performed well on press. I have been told that they are made by Agfa. They came up to color quickly and didn’t require any major ink/water balance changes.

3.The Agfa system is a Palladio with Apogee X Light, In RIP trapping, Pitstop, DynaStrip and a Sherpa 24m. We have not tested the Agfa plates.

4.The Fuji system uses the Saber Vx-6000 and an Epson 7600. We have not tested the Fuji plates.
